The Harry Potter books and movies have some pretty big twists and turns and this theory concerns one of the biggest plot twists, so if you have not finished all of the books or all of the movies, you might want to wait to read this until you are done.
According to one Harry Potter theory is that although J.K Rowling has made it clear through the books and the movies, that the wand chooses the wizard, but one wizard, Neville, didn’t have the opportunity for his wand to choose him. Instead, he decided to adopt his father’s wand. Some fans think that this is the real reason why he is so bad at magic, not because he is a bumbling idiot, but because he had the wrong wand.
If true, it’s a perfect metaphor for why we have to choose our own path or at least let fate choose if for us, rather than trying to follow in someone else’s footsteps. There is plenty of evidence in both the books and the movies to support this theory. After Death Eater Antonin Dolohov broke his wand at the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, Neville showed a marked and significant improvement in his magical abilities, and even went on to be a major part of the final battle in book seven.
